Html coding help please?

-My school has chosen me to make a social website for the school. Kinda like facebook or myspace but just for my school. But i am having some trouble. I need to know how to make recent post by the members show up on the home page? And how do I make it where you can click on the persons name who posted the status you go to their profile. Thank youi very much. PICKING BEST ANSWER. 10 POINTS!!If you use Blogger as your blog host then you can use recent post widget. But if you use wordpress I guess there's no HTML code. In fact you have to do it with plug-in.
